2008 Baseball Rules & Regulations
1)
I.H.S.A.
Rules govern play with exception of these house rules.
2)
There are
two leagues:
a)
Varsity (8th
grade league) includes 8th graders and younger
b)
Junior
Varsity (7th grade league) includes 7th grade and younger.
c)
No player
may play in both leagues. A 7th grader who plays up with the 8th
grade league must remain up for the remainder of the season.(5th
graders are not recommended for either league)
3)
Varsity
bases are 80 feet, the pitching rubber is 54 feet, the bat barrel thickness may
not be any greater than 2 5/8 and the bat can only be a single digit
differentiation.
4)
Junior
Varsity bases are 70 feet, pitching rubber is 52 feet, the bat barrel thickness
may not be greater than 2 5/8 and the bat can only be a single digit
differentiation.
5)
Pitching:
·
Balks-
Regular Season- 1 warning per pitcher and then a balk will be called.
·
Play-offs-
Balks will be called with no warnings.
·
Innings
pitched- A pitcher may pitch only 6 innings per day and only 6 innings per
school.
·
One pitch
constitutes an inning pitched.
·
Once a
pitcher is removed from the mound, he may not return to the mound during the
game.
6)
Games are
6 innings in length.
7)
Designated
runner: With two outs, the catcher must be replaced on the bases with a
designated runner, anyone not currently in the game or the last out if everyone
is in the game.
8)
Regular
Season Free substitutions:
All players at each game must bat in a continuous batting order. All players
must play at least one inning in the field. There will be free entry for all
players with the exception of the pitcher. If you play a team twice in one
season you may not use the same pitcher in both games.
9)
Play-off substitutions:
10 Player rules- A tenth batter can be used in the line up as an extra hitter.
These players can switch positions in the field. Once a team starts with ten
players, they must end with ten players. Free substitutions: Starters
can be replaced by a sub and return to the game for that sub spot in the
line-up. The sub is then out of the game.
10) No metal spikes are
allowed.
11) Slaughter rule is 12 runs
after the 4th inning.
12)
All scores must be called into the hot line with in 72 hours by
the winning team. The
game will be considered a double
forfeit if the score
is not called in by the 72 hour limit. Hot
line number is
312-409-3330. Please choose 8th grade for
Varsity and 7th
grade selection for JV.
13) Rainouts: The
home team is responsible for calling in a rainout. The
home team must
contact the opposing teams coach or Athletic
director, the Umpire
Chief and the hot line in case of a rainout. The
Umpire Chief is:

312-514-5468. When rescheduling a
game the Umpire Chief
must be given 24 hour notice. All
cancelled games must
be rescheduled with-in 48 hours of the
cancellation. Games
not played by the last day of the regular
season will be
counted as double forfeit. A $50.00 fine will be
imposed on any school
rescheduling a game for reasons other
than a rainout.
If an umpire shows up at a game
and it is subsequently rained out
before the game
begins the umpire will be paid $10.00. If the game
begins and is
subsequently rained out the umpire will receive full pay.
At the sight of
lightening, the game will be suspended for a 10 minute
period, after which
the game will continue or be suspended at the
discretion of the
umpire.
14) Umpire fees are $21.00
per game. All teams must provide
each game with two
baseballs.
15) Games may begin on April 18th
and must be completed by May 14th.
Any games not
finished by May 14th will be considered a double
forfeit. Play-off
quarter finals will take place between May 15th and
May 18th.
May 19th, 20th and 21st will be reserved for
semi-final and
final games. TBA.
16) A coin toss at the
beginning of each game will determine the home
Team. When double
headers are played, the coin toss will determine
The home team for the
first game. The visitor for the first game will
Be the home team for
the second game. When single games are
Played, the team that
wins the coin toss fro the first game will be the
Home team for that
game. In the case where a second game is
Played in the season
(not including the playoffs) the team that lost
The toss in the first
game will be the home team in the second game.
17) All rosters must be in
before the first game to Maggie Burke.

18) Play-off information:
1. Playoffs are
conducted in a single elimination format comprised
Of the top 3
teams in each division and the next two best records.
If the two wild
card come from the same division, they will be
Seeded, by
record, in the appropriate division. In the case of one
Division the top
8 teams will play in the play-offs. The worst
Record will
always be seeded against the best record and so on.
2. Tie breakers exist
for the purpose of determining play-off seeding
Only. The tie
breaker will follow this order:
1.
Head to
Head record
2.
Division
record (only if teams are in the same division)
3.
Record
against higher standing teams in the division.
4.
Coin toss
or, in the case of a three way tie, they will be pulled from a hat by the
chairperson of that sport.
5.
Ties which
determine inclusion for a play-off seeding will be determined through an
elimination contest.
3. Play-off rules to
determine home team:
1. Quarter
finals-Home team will be the higher seeded team.
2.
Semi-finals-Home team will be determined by a coin flip.
Higher seed
team will call the flip.
3. Finals-Home
team will be determined by a coin flip. (In the
case of a
tie in the seeding the call of the flip will be by the
commissioner)
4. Awards: First
place team in each division will receive team and
individual
trophies; in the case of one division the top 2 team will
receive trophies.
Team and individual trophies will be given to the
top two teams in
the league tournament.
19) The CSCC demands that
all teams abide by the bat rule and NOCSEA
specifications. Bats
used can be no more than a negative single digit
and the barrel no
bigger than 2 5/8.
20
The fee to enter a team into the baseball league is $100.00 per
team. Fees must be
brought to the scheduling meeting or sent
to Bill Dohr, league
treasurer, through each schools Athletic
Director.
